為什麼不論講堂大與小，前排三行一定要等到最後關頭才有人肯坐？
為什麼不管有多早到，先來的同學總還是喜歡靠邊坐？結果遲到的人要大費周章走進中間座位，嚴重滋擾上課氣氛？
為什麼遲到的人不會臉紅？
為什麼明明可以走堂都沒有後果的課你偏要來上，來了卻把頭枕在男朋友的肩膊上直至下課？
為什麼上課中途要接電話？
為什麼中途要暫時離開課室，你不懂得輕輕帶上門，而非要出盡氣力，叫所有人都回頭看你？
為什麼老師發問，你會立刻垂下眼皮？
為什麼老師邀請你發表意見，人人四圍望，像極了打電話參加電台遊戲的聽眾，永遠不敢肯定「幸運兒」是自己？
為什麼其他同學說話時，你嘴藐藐？
為什麼你覺得老師沒有料，你只會跟鄰座的同學耳語批評，就是不敢大聲說出你對她或他的看法？
為什麼你在最後一排睡著了，還發出了低沉有致的鼻鼾聲？
我知，我是明知故問，但我真的，一天比一天受不了如此這般的港式大學文化。

My responses:
Q1. I don't know. I'm always in the first three rows here at UF. I need to be able to listen to the prof. and see the board. In my observation in the undergrad. class, people in the front usually ask more questions. Not sure about the correlation-causation though.
Q2. Why is the classroom designed so that it's difficult to get in the middle? Last Monday was the first exam and some students were late. Of course it's always easier to get the seats at the sides. But I did have to get through the rows in the lecture hall to pass exam questions to the students who were late. I'm not particularly slim but getting through the rows of chairs where students were already sitting there wasn't too much trouble. One word: environmental factors.
Q3. Well, would they say sorry? Perhaps they have changes in heart rate that we cannot observe?
Q4. Would that be, the boyfriend asked her to do so?
Q5. No clue about the phone. To me, this is disrespect to the prof and other students.
Q6. Could be environmental factors. Many doors here won't bang itself. They have the hinges at the top so that the doors close slowly and usually silently.
Q7. I was in a TA workshop, they said, we need to wait at least 10s for an answer. And we shouldn't answer our own questions. I haven't tried this technique though.
Q8. Also learnt from a TA workshop: The learning environment can be confusing to students, especially in group discussions. The role as a facilitator is to provide an aim, a target, so that students can be focused and get something out of the discussion.
Q9. I don't know. Need to ask the students. Perhaps they are unconscious of their own facial expressions?
Q10. Perhaps, they have learnt that even though they say anything, the prof. just wouldn't change or even listen. Learnt helplessness.
Q11. What about to do some sleep research? Rapid eye movement sort of things. To see the process of how students fall into sleep during class. Let's see if there's a pattern or not.

說對了，昨天坐第一行，而且起勢抄筆記的，正是內地交換生。
提問：
1.貴Blog多次提及學生上課時睡覺、手機響、視課堂為拍拖勝地，請問是每一堂都同時發生，還是數十課堂的其中兩三個例子？
2.學生每一個都準時、專心、目不斜視、恭敬地回答、同學間有禮地討論....這樣完美的畫面其實很難在現實出現(教育電視除外)。請問有人在什麽學府見過嗎？
3.為何說這是港式大學文化？就貴文章跟數位曾留學英、美、加、澳的朋友討論過，這些情況到處都有，當然，他們不能完全代表這四個國家。
4.內地生在香港留學加倍認真，相信港人如憑一己能力放洋留學的也是不敢偷懶，因為知道得來不易，故這是本地生和留學生的分別，不是港人或內地人之分，不知諸位同意否？

i have a laptop model presario c300 . i have windows xp sp2 in it. i just formatted it . i have installed all dirvers but wen i m trying to install sound drivers it says 'cannot find modem for device' n sometimes says 'cannot find device for driver' ..how do i install sound drivers to my laptop. internet is working everything else is working .. thers no virus because i have jus now formattd. sound device is of conexant universal. it has a smart audio software with it i have installed that . pls help.
